Toyota to launch Rs 20 lakh Fortuner in India
April 08, 2009
The world's largest carmaker, Toyota on Wednesday said it will bring its sports utility vehicle Fortuner in India by September this year, expected to be priced at about Rs 20 lakh.

The company, which is present in India through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group, would launch the SUV with a three-litre advanced common-rail diesel engine.

"The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalising details for the launch," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) deputy managing director Sandeep Singh said in a statement.

Taking into account the variations in exchange rates, the company is still working out on the price details of the SUV, but "expect it to be around Rs 20 lakh", he added.

Fortuner would be brought into the country as a knocked down unit and would be assembled at TKM's Bidadi plant.

TKM is currently constructing its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore at an investment of Rs 3,200 crore (Rs 32 billion) to launch a "strategic" small car in India by 2011.
