Hyderabad the movie capital of India

Hyderabad has emerged as the movie capital of India, having bought the maximum number of movie VCDs and DVDs -- ranging from Telugu, Hindi love stories to international comedies. Besides, they bought the maximum number of football jerseys, ice-cream machines, designer pens and key chains than any other buyers in the country.

Southern cities Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai reigned supreme over other states, featuring in the top 5 ecommerce hubs in the country with Mumbai leading the league followed by Delhi.

Bangalore loves its cars as they buy maximum car care products on eBay. The enthusiasm for car racing among Tamil Nadu eBayers extend beyond racing tracks to collection of die-cast models of their favourite cars.

eBayers in Karnataka sold the maximum number of musical instruments including brass trumpets, keyboards etc across the country. Andhra Pradesh, with 282 wired locations, emerged as the most wired state in India. And, Andhraites also bought the maximum number of USB drives to store and carry their data. 

This, and many more fun facts was revealed in the India census compiled by online marketplace eBay India, which was released here on Tuesday.

The first-ever eBay India census, designed to throw light on online buying and selling behaviour in India, is based on an analysis of all buying and selling transactions on eBay from January 1, 2007, till December 31, 2007, in the top 100 ecommerce cities and 28 states and six Union territories.

"Over a third of all products bought by eBayers in the hilly areas (northeast, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh) are tech gadgets like mobile phones, digital cameras and USB drives. While women from metros are buying a lot of sarees, the sellers are spread across various cities and towns including manufacturing and handicraft hubs like Devanagere in Karnataka, Chittaurgarh in Rajasthan, Lucknow and Kunnamkulam in Kerala," Kashyap Vadapalli, director (marketing and operations), eBay, said.

Globally, $763 million was spent on ecommerce in 2008, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2010. In India, etailing is a Rs 1,105-crore market.
