Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance [Get Quote] Retail on Friday said it would set up 55 stores for home appliances and electronic goods across the country over the next two years.

"We have planned to open 55 stores for home appliances and electronic goods across the country over the next two years under the Reliance Digital brand," Reliance Retail Ltd president and chief executive (Consumer Durable, IT and Telecom) Ajay Baijal told PTI.

Declining to elaborate on the investment for the stores, Baijal said the stores would be multi-brand showrooms having all home appliances and electronic goods.

"It would have all products including mobile phones to iPods," he said. Baijal was in Chennai to inaugurate the company's first outlet 'iStore' under Reliance Digital, the consumer durables arm of Reliance Retail Ltd, which houses the entire Apple range of products.

The company already has two iStores in Bangalore and one each in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Jaipur and Ludhiana.

The iStore would offer specific training modules from different Mac applications such as iPhoto, iMovie, Mac OS, X Leopard through regular training modules, he said.

Customers would also have access to dedicated after sales service through an in-house service arm called 'ResQ', Baijal said. He said the company has been engaged in setting up such iStores in the country after getting a good response from the public.

Reliance Retail would also inaugurate one of the largest iStores, built across 20,000 sq ft, in the city in the next six months, he added. "Currently we are looking for locations," he said. The company's first iStore in Gurgaon is spread across 45,000 sq ft.

The second iStore in the city would have over 5,000 products and it would be a multi-brand showroom, Baijal said.

Reliance Retail Ltd opened its first retail store in November 2006 and at present operates over 800 stores, over an area of 3.8 million sq ft in 60 cities across 14 states.
