Maruti, Hyundai, Bajaj sales up in June

Maruti [Get Quote] Suzuki India Ltd on Tuesday reported a 2.22 per cent rise in total vehicle sales during June at 61,247 units, compared to 59,917 units in the same month last year.

The company said its domestic sales increased by 0.7 per cent at 56,411 units as against 56,000 units in June last year.

It said the A2 segment, comprising Alto, Zen Estillo, Wagon R and Swift registered a marginal growth of 0.3 per cent at 37,767 units, against 37,646 units in the same month last year.

Its M800 model recorded 13.73 per cent decline at 5,361 units in June, as compared to 6,214 units during the corresponding month last year.

The A3 segment comprising SX4 and Swift Dzire recorded 48 per cent increase at 5,807 units, compared to 3,923 units in June last year.

Exports during the month stood at 4,836 units as compared to 3,917 units in the same month last year, up 23.5 per cent.

Hyundai sales up 34%: Hyundai Motor India reported on Tuesday a 34 per cent increase in domestic passenger car sales at 21,881 units during June, against 16,335 units in the corresponding month of 2007.

The company's overall sales (including exports) during June were up 45.3 per cent at 40,182 units, compared to 27,653 units in the same month a year ago, HMIL said.

Its exports for the month rose to 18,301 units, against 11,318 units during the same month previous year.

HMIL sold 33,859 units of hatchbacks Santro, Getz and i10; 6,272 units of Accent and Verna, 47 units of Sonata Embera and 4 units of its SUV Tucson in June.

"At a time when the industry is already under tremendous pressure because of higher interest rates, rise in fuel costs and rising inflation, it is indeed very heartening to see that Hyundai products continue to be an affordable and attractive buy for most car buyers," company's Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.

The company's 'i10' has done exceedingly well and it has sold over 1,00,000 units in less than six months since its launch, he added.

Bajaj motorcycle sales up 8%: Bajaj Auto [Get Quote] also reported on Tuesday an 8 per cent rise in its motorcycle sales in June at 1,75,903 units compared to 1,62,730 units in the same month last year.

The sale of total two wheelers, including scooters, during the month stood at 1,77,112 units, a jump of 7 per cent over the last year's corresponding month's sale of 1,65,236 units, BAL said.

The total two and three wheeler sale in June was rose by 5 per cent to 1,96,741 units, from 1,88,102 units in the same period last year, it said.

BAL's exports rose by 33 per cent to 64,878 units in June, from 48,675 units in the corresponding period last year.

On its proposed launch, the company said: "The new Bajaj Discover DTS-i will be introduced this month, and will soon be followed by 4 more 125cc+ motorcycles through the year."
