General Motors India on Wednesday launched its premier sports utility vehicle, Chevrolet Captiva, priced at Rs 17.74 lakh (Rs 1.774 million) -- ex-showroom Delhi.

The car will compete with Honda's best selling sports utility vehicle (SUV), CR-V, which is sold at Rs 19.1 lakh (Rs 1.91 million) and Mitsubhi's Pajero priced at Rs 18.1 lakh (Rs 1.81 million), among others.

"The two-litres diesel engine powers Captiva has everything that a premium SUV customer in India wants. We are positioning it as a contemporary SUV here, " GM India president and managing director Karl Slym told reporters in New Delhi at the 9th Auto Expo.
