Senior RBI official joins CBI

A senior official of the Reserve bank of India has joined the Central Bureau of Investigation for providing the agency with financial management tips and inputs for investigating bank frauds and other economic offences.

J L Negi, general manager, RBI has joined the Security & Frauds Cell in Economic Offences Wing of the agency.

CBI officials said Negi's vast experience will be used for financial management, inputs for investigating bank frauds and other economic offences and he will also contribute to organising training of investigating officers of the agency for investigation of such cases.

"He will be responsible for liasioning with banks, financial institutions and RBI," a CBI official said about Negi, an alumni of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

The CBI already has two bankers working with them including P Mukherjee, assistant general manager, State Bank of India [Get Quote], who too is with BS&FC and gives inputs regarding investigation of bank fraud cases of amount above Rs 5 crore (Rs 50 million).

Rajesh Sharma, deputy general manager of RBI is the other banker who is currently posted in Economic Offence Unit of CBI.

He primarily helps the agency in handling bank fraud cases between Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million) and Rs 5 crore.
