The top 100 companies have created wealth worth Rs 25.4 lakh crore during the period 2003-08, a study has revealed.

"The top 100 companies, analysed during the period 2003-08, created wealth worth Rs 25.4 lakh crore," the Motilal Oswal 13th Annual Wealth Creation Study released on Friday said.

Reliance Industries [Get Quote], with a significant wealth creation of Rs 3.1 lakh crore became the biggest wealth creator, said the study.

The fastest wealth creator was Unitech, with a five-year price CAGR of 284 per cent. This too is the highest in the last 13 studies, the study said.

Last year, BF Utilities [Get Quote] emerged as the fastest wealth creator.

Infosys [Get Quote] emerged as the most consistent wealth creator, appearing in each of the last 10 wealth creation studies, the report said.

Hero Honda and Ranbaxy [Get Quote] Labs were ranked as the most consistent wealth creators in 2005 and 2007, respectively.

Wipro [Get Quote] also emerged as the most consistent wealth creator in the year 2007.

The study further said that out of the top 10 wealth creators, five companies were commodity companies.

"Commodity companies dominated the list as the study period coincides with an unprecedented boom in commodity prices, led by global economic growth," the study said.

In terms of industries, oil & gas and metals accounted for 40 per cent of the wealth created.
