India may be adding a record number of mobile subscribers every month but telecom service providers have to go a long way in providing good quality of service, according to a report.
"Even as wireless service providers make huge investments to keep pace with the rapid growth in subscriber numbers, poor quality of service is rapidly emerging as a concern," according to a report by Crisil Research.
The number of base stations installed by Indian wireless operators is inadequate to provide high-quality services to the growing number of mobile subscribers, it said.
"The operators are emphasising more on expanding coverage to newer areas rather than increasing capacity in existing service areas," the report said, adding this could hurt long term plans of the service providers.
India, the third largest wireless market in the world, has total wireless subscriber base of 201 million at the end of August.
"With regards to quality of service, a lot remains to be achieved... the challenge for operators and regulators would get tougher going ahead due to growing number of subscribers and high minutes of usage per subscriber and constraints in spectrum availability," it said.
