Forty-seven Indian workers of a construction company in Qatar have gone on strike to protest against alleged non-payment of salaries and poor living conditions.
The workers also lodged a complaint with the Indian embassy on Tuesday, in which they said that they had been cheated by recruiting agents back home. Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph, who met the workers, promised to take up their grievances with the company management, Peninsula Daily said.
The workers, all of them from Kerala, said in the complaint that they had given huge sums of money to a recruiting agent in the state to get their visas. The protesting workers gathered outside the Indian embassy.
