Bajaj Auto [Get Quote] reported on Saturday a seven per cent dip in its motorcycle sales (including exports) in August at 1,67,483 units against 1,80,570 units in the same month a year ago.

"The growth of 100 cc motorcycles was registered due to product fatigue as which continued to weigh down the entire industry," BAL said in a statement.

Total two-wheeler sales of the company in the month declined by six per cent to 1,70, 203 units as against 1,82,013 units in the same month last year.

The company's three-wheeler sales also declined by two per cent in August this year to 25,504 units compared to 26,150 units in August 2006, it said.

It said three-wheeler sales reflect the general weakness in the commercial vehicle demand.

Exports during the month, however, surged 75 per cent to 56,452 units compared to 32, 283 units in the same month last year.

Bajaj has commenced production of its new 125 cc DTS-Si motorcycle at Waluj, Aurangabad and targets sales of 20,000 units in September subsequent to the national launch.

With production and sales of its motorcycle expected to reach 50,000 units in November 2007, the company expects its motorcycle volumes to be ahead of the corresponding period last year.

"With this, almost 75 per cent Bajaj's motorcycle portfolio would be in the more profitable 125 cc-250 cc segment," it said.
