Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Retail on Thursday opened its first exclusive apparel store under the 'Reliance Trends' brand in Gurgaon as it moves ahead with its Rs 25,000 crore ( Rs 250 billion) retail juggernaut.

The store, spread across 30,000 sq ft, is the first of 100 such stores that the company plans to set up in the next three years. The second and third stores will be opened in Delhi and Mumbai shortly. In the next one year, the company plans to set up to 20-30 such stores.

Through 'Reliance Trends' the company is aiming to capture a siginifcant pie of the burgeoning apparel industry.

"The apparel industry is expected to be at around Rs 100,000 crore (Rs 1000 billion) in the next three years and Reliance is targeting a fair share of the market," RIL [Get Quote] Retail Apparel and Luggage Business Chief Executive Arun Srideshmukh said.

Besides housing a variety of international brands like Lee, Wrangler and Reebok, 'Reliance Trends' will also have a fair share of private label in various categories.

The private labels, which will account for about 30 per cent of the total collection, includes 'Network' and 'Netplay' for formal and men's casual wear, 'Frenz' and 'Panda' for children wear and infant range respectively. While women range will be sold under 'Sparsh' brand.

Targeted at the middle class, the store offers a pair of jeans for Rs 199, formal shirt for Rs 149 and kidswear starting from Rs 79.

Srideshmukh said Reliance has already created an in-house design team of 30 full-time designers for its private label and is also taking help from international designers.

The Reliance Trends store will also serve as one of the outlets for RIL's fabric brand 'Vimal' and offers tailoring facilities.
