Verizon Business on Wednesday announced that it has received a letter of intent from the Government of India for the award of licenses for its international and national long-distance services.The company said that the receipt of the licenses would enhance Verizon Business' ability to provide advanced telecommunications services to multinational companies with operations in India, as well as to India-based multinationals.
Verizon already holds an Internet service provider license in India and has various local IP hubs. The company currently provides services to its multinational customers' Indian operations through partnerships with several licensed carriers in India.
John Killian, president, Verizon Business, described the receipt of the letter of intent as important milestone in the provision of services to its customers with operations in India.
"India is a strategic market for many of our multinational customers, and our application for these licenses is part of our continued investment in global infrastructure to provide the highest levels of services and capabilities to our customers around the world," he said in a statement.
"We look forward to building on our existing presence in India to provide advanced communications services and high-quality support direct to customer operations based there," he said.
