The Indian economy is booming, the 21st century belongs to India . . . Such stories abound, in local as also international media.

And yet, while urban India boasts of development, plush offices, hi-tech facilities and zooming salaries, rural India still awaits proper power and drinking water supply. The fruits of economic boom seem to have been unevenly distributed.

Is India is really on a high-growth path or are Indians just revelling in a 'fools' paradise'? Is the growth real or imaginary? Are the rich getting richer and the poor becoming poorer? Or can India really be an economic powerhouse?
