IIM salaries: Is the media going overboard?

While IIM-A has bagged the highest salary package in the Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore bracket for domestic placements and $2,25,000 to $3,00,000 for international placements, it's ironical that 15 students could not pass out from IIM-A this year.

While the media goes berserk highlighting zooming salaries, there is little focus on these issues or  lowest salaries bagged by the students.

For instance, the highest domestic salary of Rs 22 lakh at IIM-Kozhikode was a whopping 233 per cent more than the lowest offer of Rs 6.6 lakh and the highest offer of Rs 18 lakh at IIM-Indore was over 200 per cent more than the lowest offer of Rs 6 lakh. The highest salaries are always bagged by students who have 3-4 years of work experience.

Instead of focussing on the achievements of IIM graduates or graduates of other B schools who have excelled in terms of work and contribution to the society, the media keeps harping on salaries which are bagged by just by the toppers.

Is this a good trend? Is it fair to just focus on salaries of the premium B-school graduates?

Does it make sense to write volumes about IIM grads' salaries?
