VSNL, Microsoft tie up to offer messaging services to SMEs

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd has entered into a collaboration with software giant Microsoft to launch ReadyAccess Business Messaging and Collaboration services for small and medium enterprise segment.

This service provides secure, enterprise grade messaging capabilities with quick and easy deployment on a pay per use basis without the need for high up-front capital investment.

"Messaging is the most critical and widely used business application across all segment. Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd is pleased to be the first global provider to associate with Microsoft to bring essential service to the emerging SME market in India," VSNL Vice President (Managed Services) Abid Qadiri said in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Microsoft will bring in technology and VSNL will be the service provider. Already a few thousand mailboxes were operational in the country, he added.

In India, currently the SME segment in this category was growing at an annual rate of 67 per cent worth generating revenue worth Rs 500-600 crore (Rs 5 to 6 billion).

"We would like to have a significant market share from this pie," Qadiri added.

VSNL was also in talks with mobile service providers (GSM and CDMA) domestically and internationally and will announce the names shortly.

ReadyAcces also offers message security and hygiene with enterprise grade anti-spam and anti-virus solution, as well as on demand storage services. It will be offered by Tata Indicom Enterprise Business Unit sales force, the enterprise division of VSNL.
