Open source computing: Sun microsys, NIIT to offer training

Sun Microsystems India Pvt Ltd and IT trainer NIIT said on Tuesday the companies will offer training in the growing Open Source Computing through Sun Solaris Training Programs.

"This strategic initiative will lead to inclusion of solaris system into curriculum to train students and enterprise segment," Sun Microsystems India Chief Learning Officer G Bhaskar said at a press conference.

Two specialised laboratories would be set up by Sun in Delhi and Mumbai in the first phase and later expanded to 50 cities.

"Ninety per cent of the offtake in training programme comes from enterprise houses," he said.

NIIT CEO Vijay K Thadani said, "We are looking at training two lakh people in one year and the IT industry requires about two million workforce."

As part of the alliance, NIIT will offer specialised training programmes through its network of education centres as well as specialised solaris labs, he said.
