Sanyo Electronics introduced on Tuesday its range of digital cameras in the Indian market as it targets a four per cent share of the domestic market in the first year of operations.

The company launched two digital camera models and plans to launch its entire range by the end of this year.

Sanyo has lined up eight different camera models for the Indian market priced in a range of Rs 8,990 to Rs 59,990.

"Globally, we have a 23 per cent share in the digital camera market. We intend to capture a four per cent share in the Indian digital camera market in the first year of operations and want to become one of the top three players in the next 36 months," Sanyo India President Keiji Oshima told reporters in New Delhi.

The company had in 2005 tied up with Indian colour television manufacturer BPL to form a joint venture company Sanyo BPL.

The joint venture company has one colour television manufacturing facility in Bangalore with an annual capacity of one million units. Sanyo BPL is utilising 60 per cent of the installed capacity at the television facility and plans to ramp it up as and when sales in the domestic market grow.

"The tie-up with BPL is just for colour televisions. We operate on a standalone basis for our other product lines, which include microwaves, refrigerators, DVD players and digital cameras," Oshima said, adding that the television facility would be upgraded as and when the volumes grow.

The company might consider a new facility for the rest of its product lines but a decision could only be expected after it generates sufficient sales volumes to support manufacturing operations, Oshima said.
