Aimed at the consumer segment that cannot afford a personal computer, Nivio on Friday launched the world's first windows-based online desktop, which can be accessed from any Internet connected device across the world at a cost of Rs 199 a month.

Announcing the launch in New Delhi, company founder and CEO Sachin Duggal said Nivio allows global access to a personal virtual desktop from any Internet connected device.

Targetted at the student community and executives, Nivio subscription is priced at Rs 399 per month and Rs 199 per month for students.

Nivio would also provide a variety of services on demand to its subscribers, including rental of software applications, access to a library of educational content and expandable storage, the company said in a release.

Nivio has raised over $3.5 million through private equity, with the promoters of Videocon [Get Quote] also holding a stake in the company.

"The company plans to raise $5 million in the next six months to fund expansion plans," Duggal said, adding that Nivio is aiming to register 100,000 trial users by December targeting mainly the student community.
