In an hour-long chat on rediff.com, market expert Pranav Sanghavi talked about which stocks to buy and what to sell at a time when the Sensex is in the 15,000-range. Here is the transcript:

PRANAV SANGAHVI says,
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the chat.

kl asked, Hello, is it the right time to enter the market
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers,  at 2007-07-25 12:06:14The markets are poised for a minor correction. I think that correction should be used to enter the markets.
lodha asked, Yr views on itc & hul
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think the FMCG stocks have grossly underperformed the markets. With HUL (HLL [Get Quote]) announcing a buy back which may put some faith back in the investors and ITC looking to give good results, I think they should perform well, at least in the short term. Although I like ITC especially for the longer term also.
ajaygone asked, is better to sell off the andhra bank sahres
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, If you are a longer term investor then you can hold on. With the interest rates looking to plateau if not come down in the near future, I think banks will perform well over the next few quarters.
ml asked, What do think about Bharat Electronics [Get Quote] ? Is it a good buy at these levels ?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, Yes, I think even at these levels it is a good play with a longer term view.
ml asked, Hi, Should I enter BHEL at these levels ?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think BHEL is also an excellent play in the capital goods segment along with L&T. It has a slightly lower PE ratio than L&T but its playing catch up.
ml asked, Shoudl I book profits/losses in IT ? When will IT come out of the bearish phase ?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, The dollar looks to weaken further in the short term. So, in the short term the IT companies may not perform in the short term but in the longer term, they will figure out a strategy to over come the rupee appreciation problem.
ml asked, What woudl be a good time to get out of cement stocks ? Will i get more profits if I look at a 1 year horizon?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, The cement stocks had moved up on good results and there was a feeling that the government may not interfere too much with the price regulations. But today again there is talks of MRTP action against the cement manufacturers for catelling. So again there may be negative impact on the stocks in the short term. In the longer term I still remain bullish on them.
ml asked, Is IFCI good to enter at these levels ?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, IFCI has had a phenomenal run from aroudn 20 levels to Rs. 60 levels. A correction in the script was expected. If you can hold on for 6 to 12 months you could get in at these levels.
Vikat asked, HI Sir, what are the future prospects of GMR infrastructure [Get Quote], IFCI and RNRL? can we buy it now? and what will be the time horizon?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I GMR will be a leader in the listed entities in the infrastructure sector. It should out perform the markets over a longer term. RNRL again is a 2 to 3 year play.
ketan asked, Hello , Good Morning Mr Sanghvi...Market is really fired up...I want to invest, but certainly NOT at this level. Bcoz if i have missed these much, I cant make up at this level. Shall i enter at below 14000 index level which i consider safe to enter?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, Dear Ketan, good afternoon to you too. Rather than looking at Market levels I would suggest you look at the EPS and PE ratios of the company and compare it with the Index PE too. If you are getting a quality stock between a 12 to 15 PE it would surely be a buy whether the markets are at 16000 or 14000. But it would be wiser to enter at a correction where you would find stocks with such PE's.
ml asked, Is steel expected to contuinue its bull run within a 1 year outlook ?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think steel is an essential commodity in an economy like ours where infrastructure is going to remain a sector of focus for some years to come. So i think the demand of the steel will not die down but steel is a commodity and commodity prices are never in a constant increase. They are subject to fluctuations due to various factors.
Vikat asked, HOw is Allied Digital?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, The have declared their this quarters results which are about 25% higher than their projections. So if they do surpass their projections then the price could see steady rise.
Vikat asked, suggest some good bank stocks except ICICI, SBI [Get Quote] and HDFC [Get Quote]
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I would look at Vijaya Bank [Get Quote], Allahabad Bank [Get Quote], PNB, amongst a lot of others and even the Central Bank issue.
lodha asked, should we enter NTPC at current level
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think NTPC will continue its performance which it has displayed over the past year or so. I would recommend a buy on any dips or corrections.
Thowfeek asked, Hi Mr.Pranav, I'm an NRI planning to enter in stock market. I can invest Rs.20000.00 every month. So what is the better option for me? In which sector will be on booming in coming year 2008?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I would look at Banking, real estate, Telecom and Capital Goods sectors.

PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, If you are a long term inestor yes.
Rahul asked, What about Hero Honda, i have its 100 shares @ 691, when its going to grow??
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, i think till the interest rates move downards a bit the two wheeler sector may remain a bit of an underperformer.

PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I would suggest you write to the companies and they may still buy back your shares. Alternatively, you could also write to the Investor Protection Forum. You will get details of the same on the BSE's website.
sasi asked, i have bought Wipro [Get Quote] (200 qty) at the rate of 587. Currently the price declined to 500 wat shall i do? And what will be the price after 3 to 4 months?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think it would take a little longer than that for you to make profits. So if you can you could hold on.
Raghavan asked, I have 400 shares of BALRAMPUR CHINI [Get Quote] @ Rs. 80/ share. What are the the prospects of this company with a 1-2 years outlook.?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, In the short term the company will reamin an underperformer unless the government comes out with sops for the sugar sector.
ABC asked, Dear sir, when do you expect this correction to happen?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I thought it would come atleast a week back. But no one can predict accurately. There is excess liquidity in our system right now.

Harish asked, Hi Prabav... I am new in this business... Just tell me what is good for me, make daily transactions or keep the stock with me
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, Definately the latter. Daily trading is nothing short of speculation.
codnameprofit asked, what tools/research can i use to pick good stocks for long term
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, If by that you mean software then Bloomberg has a great terminal on offer. But it is expensive. You could also look at Capital Markets terminal which is pretty useful.
zooni asked, what would be the prospects of DLF for middle- long term?
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think in the organised real estate sector DLF is the largest player. If they continue the performance as they have given this quarter then it will surely outperfomr the market.
asdf asked, Hi! Can u give ur views on Idea Cellular Ltd [Get Quote]. Its expected to give its quarterly results yesterday but i think its delayed. Wats the expected reslut by the end of this year
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, I think the stock should steadily rise in the shadows of Bharti and RComm.

PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, Tea is a cyclical sector although Tata Tea is a strong player with overseas acquisitions etc. You could hold on for 6 to 12 months.
arun asked, i want to enter market with either SIP's or mutual funds. i know the markets are doing really well. until when shud i wait to invest. is it still ok to invest at these levels
PRANAV SANGAHVI answers, If it is an SIP scheme you could start immediately. If you are putting one time in a MF then you oculd wait for a correction.
