Hefty pay package alone does not make an employee happy, according to an Assocham survey.

The survey reveals that middle-rank employees in public sector units, foreign embassies and academic institutions are satisfied with their jobs driven by limited accountability.

Almost 80 per cent of the respondents of the survey on 'Job Satisfaction Levels' covering 700 employees, said factors for job satisfaction comprise flexible working hours, plenty of leave facilities and reasonable perks.

Jobs that drive maximum satisfaction include that of under secretary, deputy secretary and directors with government, faculties in academic institutions like lecturers and senior lectures and officials like advisers, commercial and trade officers in foreign embassies, the survey said.

Also, middle rank managers, senior managers and chief managers in PSUs are among those who remain highly contended and satisfied with their assigned job responsibilities, according to majority of respondents.

The survey showed that satisfaction levels are also rising among over 65 per cent middle rank employees of MNCs, IT giants and large Indian corporate houses in view of attractive salary package and good work environment which was not found earlier.

However, over 40 per cent of the respondents said that senior officers of joint secretary ranks and above with government are among the highly tense lot because of long working hours and accountability to hierarchical bosses to political leaders and media.

"Apart from senior government officials, those who face severely tight schedule and heavy responsibilities include top ranking executives in PSUs and banks, Assocham president V N Dhoot said.
