Sensex ends down 18 points at 14,862

Continuing the bullish trend, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 53 points at 14,933, and rallied to a fresh all-time intra-day high of 14,963.

However, profit-taking at higher levels saw the index slip into negative zone in morning deals. The index soon dropped to a low of 14,731 - down 232 points from the day's high.

The index, thereafter, consolidated in a range of 14,780-14,830 before fresh buying in late trades saw the index erase its losses and close at 14,862 -- down 18 points. NSE Nifty ended at 4354, down 5 points.

The Movers....

ICICI Bank [Get Quote] rallied 2% to Rs 1,005. Maruti [Get Quote], Tata Steel [Get Quote] and Larsen & Toubro surged 1.7% each to Rs 805, Rs 627 and Rs 2,331, respectively.

Dr Reddy's and Tata Motors [Get Quote] advanced nearly 1.5% each to Rs 673 and Rs 708, respectively.

....And The Shakers

Reliance Energy [Get Quote] tumbled over 3% to Rs 591. Ranbaxy [Get Quote] and HDFC [Get Quote] shed 2% each to Rs 360 and Rs 1,942, respectively.

HDFC Bank and NTPC dropped 1.6% each to Rs 1,130 and Rs 153, respectively. Satyam [Get Quote] slipped 1.5% to Rs 464.

Hindalco [Get Quote], ITC, SBI [Get Quote], Cipla, Bajaj Auto [Get Quote] and Wipro [Get Quote] declined around 1% each to Rs 155, Rs 156, Rs 1,547, Rs 216, Rs 2,090 and Rs 504, respectively.

DLF Up 8.5 per cent On Day 1

DLF was listed at Rs 582 on the BSE, a near 11% premium to its issue price of Rs 525. The stock touched a low of Rs 506 and a high of Rs 714 before ending with a gain of 8.5% (Rs 45) at Rs 570.

Most Active Counters

Debutant DLF topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 1,905 crore followed by Vishal Retail (Rs 251.40 crore), Indiabulls Real Estate [Get Quote] (Rs 160.20 crore), IFCI (Rs 155.65 crore) and ICICI Bank (Rs 117.20 crore).

DLF also led the volume chart with trades of around 3.42 crore shares followed by IFCI (2.57 crore), Reliance Natural Resources [Get Quote] (97.60 lakh), NTPC (45.65 lakh) and Bellary Steel (44.35 lakh).
