Deccan Aviation Q2 net at Rs 9.64 cr

Deccan Aviation, operator of low cost carrier Air Deccan, posted a net profit of Rs 9.64 crore (Rs 96.4 million) for its second quarter ended December 31, 2006.

The net income from operations in Q2 stood at Rs 474.89 crore (Rs 4.74 billion), up 32.39 per cent on a sequential basis compared to Rs 358.70 crore (Rs 3.58 billion) in Q1.

Air Deccan, in its first quarter (July-September 2006), reported a net loss of Rs 42.94 crore (Rs 429.4 million).

An official statement issued on Thursday said: "The composite yield (revenue per seat) recorded a 9.55 per cent growth in the last quarter despite a 15 per cent increase in seat capacity over Q1. The company has achieved a market share of 19.7 per cent."

Capt G.R Gopinath, managing director, Deccan Aviation, said, "We are pleased with the performance in the current quarter. We have constantly maintained average load factor of 73 per cent and achieved over 98 per cent (within 1hour) on time performance."

Mohan Kumar, director (finance), Deccan Aviation, said, "Our Q2 revenue moved up 19 per cent mainly on account of cost controls. Our cost per seat kilometer is Rs 3.18, which is amongst the lowest in the country. Our average yield per passenger was Rs 2,615 this quarter as against Rs 2,512 in the quarter ended December 2005 despite a significant increase in seat capacity." Powered by
