Tata Motors, the largest automobile company in the country, on Friday announced its foray into the Pakistan market through its fully-owned subsidiary, Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co, and started a new truck and bus assembly unit in Karachi.

The company has entered into a joint venture technical assistance agreement with Afzal Motors of Pakistan, which will assemble trucks and buses from the TDCV stable.

With the plant's initial capacity to produce 3,000 units, the company aims to capture a market share of about 30 percent in Pakistan in 2007-08.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Tata Motors said that its partner, Afzal Motors, has already begun sourcing knocked-down units of TDCV trucks, which will be available soon across Pakistan.

Tata Motors has already launched similar heavy duty trucks under the 'Novus' brand in India, from the TDCV stable, which is the second largest manufacturer and exporter of heavy-duty trucks in South Korea.
