Wipro Technologies announced on Wednesday its plans to add 500 new employees in UK over the next 12 months to support its growing operations.

"Wipro, which at present has 1,900 employees in UK, will be adding 500 more in the next 12 months to support its growing operations," Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said after the launch of the company's International Conference Center by UK's Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown in Bangalore.

Given the cooperation from the UK government, which is the "best in the world", the firm intends to expand, localise and develop more centers in the United Kingdom, he said.

Describing UK as 'one of the most open economies in the world,' he said, "more jobs have been created in UK than lost." "Wipro which has 70,000 employees around the world is breaking new grounds in different areas", Brown said.

His country would "continue to remain open and friendly for investors to invest in. We hope to make it into one of the great investment centers of the world", he said.

Brown said Indo-British cooperation in science and technology would continue to grow. He lauded the charitable work undertaken by Azim Premji Foundation in engaging 3.2 million children across over 17,000 schools in India.
