Gujarat is top investment spot: Report

Gujarat has left behind other states in attracting investments. The latest report of National Informatics Centre released during November 2006 says Gujarat received proposals for investment of Rs 3,75,614 crore (Rs 3756.14 billion) from August 1991 till November 2006 and topped the list.

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa have managed to secure the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. The news is being perceived as a positive one for the state and it is likely to be highlighted during 'Vibrant Gujarat Summit - 2007' being held in Ahmedabad on January 12 and January 13.

The NIC's latest report - 'Industrial Investment Proposals (Statewise) August 1991 - November 2006', provided by the Industrial Extension Bureau (Indextb) officials says, Gujarat has signed 8,271 Industrial Entrepreneur Memoranda with a proposed investments of Rs 3,54,326 crore (Rs 3543.26 billion) at an average rate of clearance of 15.33 per cent.

The state has granted 456 letters of intent and proposals for Direct Industrial Licences with a proposed investment of Rs 21,288 crore (Rs 212.88 billion) in the state at an average of 17.45 per cent.

Maharashtra, in the second place, has received proposals for investments of Rs 31,15,602 crore (RS 31156.02 billion) at an average of 12.97 per cent. The state has received 12,486 IEMs and has granted 582 LoIs and DILs for investment of Rs 18,652 crore (Rs 186.52 billion).

While Chhattisgarh, in the third position, received investment proposals worth Rs 2,26,957 crore (Rs 2269.57 billion) with an average of 9.33 per cent. The state received 1,682 IEMs with a proposed investment of Rs 2,26,392 crore (Rs 2263.92 billion). Chhattisgarh has granted 31 LoIs and DILs.

Andhra Pradesh, fourth in the list, has received proposals for Rs 2,14,458 crore (RS 2144.58 billion) at an average of 8.82 per cent out of these 4,785 are IEMs worth Rs 2,01,346 crore (Rs 2013.46 billion). The state granted 483 LoIs and DILs.

While Orissa has received investment proposals worth Rs 1,82,210 crore (RS 1822.1 billion) out of which 1,034 IEMs were filed with a proposed investment of Rs
1,76,766 crore (Rs 1767.66 billion) at an average of 7.49 per cent. The state granted 37 LoIs and DILs.

UP has managed the sixth position with investment proposals worth Rs 1,65,505 crore (Rs 1655.05 billion) followed by Karnataka with Rs 1,64,933 crore (Rs 1649.33 billion) investment proposals.

Tamil Nadu, in seventh, has received proposals worth Rs 1,55,196 crore (Rs 1551.96 billion) and on ninth position West Bengal has received investment proposals worth Rs 90,965 crore (Rs 909.65 billion). Jharkhand, on the tenth position, has received proposals with a proposed investment of Rs 84,672 crore (Rs 846.72 billion).

An official said the report has come at a time when it is preparing to attract more investments during Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2007 on January 12 and January 13.

The report is likely to be highlighted at the summit. Talking about National Informatics Centre he said that it is a Government of India department which keeps a track of the number of IEMs filed across the nation and how much investment is likely to come up.
