Sensex up 47 points at 14,403

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 52 points at 14,407, and hit a high of 14,479 in morning deals. After moving in a narrow range for most of the session, the Sensex closed with a gain of 47 points at 14,403.

The Nifty closed at 4,165, up 18 points. The market breadth was marginally positive - out of 2,674 scrips traded, 1,330 advanced and 1,291 declined.

The BSE Bankex gained 1.5% (106 points) to 7289. The BSE Metal, Oil & Gas, PSU  and Teck indices finished with marginal gains.

Index Gainers & Losers

ICICI Bank gained over 3% (Rs 30) to Rs 978.

Maruti was up nearly 2.5% (Rs 22) at Rs 914. Bajaj hit a high of Rs 3,075 in morning deals, but closed with a marginal gain of Rs 5 at Rs 3,014.

TCS gained over 1.5% to Rs 1,310. Wipro and Infosys were up marginally at Rs 679 and Rs 2,377, respectively.

While Reliance added Rs 11 to Rs 1,418, SBI was up Rs 8 at Rs 1,131. Bharti was up Rs 6 at Rs 798.

Hero Honda dropped over 3% to Rs 717. Gujarat Ambuja was also down nearly 3% at Rs 132.

Most Active Counters

GBN was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 296 crore followed by Redington (Rs 165 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 154 crore), Cinemax (Rs 141 crore) and House of Pearl Fashion (Rs 97 crore).
