Ironically, for an area that will soon house one of the celebrated ultra-mega power projects, most houses here do not have not electric connections. The Sidhikhurg village hasn't yet got electricity lines though a service station has been built here recently.

And people couldn't care less about the fact that Sasan project would supply the power at a low rate at Rs 1.196 per unit, but they think getting free power from the project is their first right.

"We are hoping to get free power from the Sasan project because it is being built on our land," said Ramlallu Shah, head of Sidhikhurg.

There are no health services for the five villages and people have to travel 12km to 15 km to Rihand and Waidhan to avail of medical facilities. The education situation is also bad with schools having classes only till the 8th standard. These schools are being run in dingy one-room building with no facilities.

"We are demanding a hospital and matric-level schools as compensation," said Shah.

Also, there are no government roadways or buses to ferry the people to and fro. "The private buses that are plying right now here are expensive," said Dalsingar.

The coming of project may have made the people-to-be-displaced worry about their livilihood, but they feel that it will bring development in the area just like NTPC's projects  in Shakinagar and Vindhyanagar. "Big change is inevitable and people will be benefit," said the local school teacher. And they will get power too!
