Its goodbye to Coke and Pepsi at the Banaras Hindu University campus in Varanasi. The university has banned these drinks on its campus from August 1, 2007.

The BHU administration took the decision on August 1 after a concerted effort by activists of the Mehdiganj Movement that had widespread support among the local community.

The movement demands that rights of local communities over natural resources be recognised. Individuals like Nandlal Master have been at the forefront of the movement against the alleged corporate misuse of natural resources.
