Delhi might be reeling under severe power crisis every summer, but still the capital has decided to bail out Mumbai this year by supplying 200 MW of electricity to the city.

Power discoms in the capital signed an agreement with Tata Power in Mumbai on Wednesday to provide electricity to the financial capital of the country from 9 am to 12 pm, Delhi Power Secretary Rakesh Mehta said.

The power is being sold to Mumbai, which faces a shortage of 400-500 MW at the rate of Rs 8 per unit. Though Delhi itself is expected to face huge power shortages this year, the city as of now has a surplus and thus the decision to sell power to Mumbai.

"The agreement is only till April 31 during which time we have a shortfall. If we don't sell the power now, it will go waste," Mehta said.

While UP is currently getting 400 MW for six hours at night for Rs 6.65 per unit, Mumbai will get around 200 MW.

With evenings and mornings still not very hot, the capital has a surplus during the day, he said. Certain parts of the capital, however, are already facing a power crunch and reporting long outages.
