West Bengal government would continue to invite investments despite the controversy over acquisition of agricultural land for setting up industrial units, the state's industry minister Nirupam Sen said on Tuesday.
"West Bengal is serious and poised for change and I urge all to rise to the occasion," Sen told members of the Confederation of Indian Industry at its annual general meeting.
The government was also trying to evolve a methodology to involve the people who surrendered their land for the Tata Motors car project at Singur, he said.
"I am sure a day will come when the people of Singur will feel they have not been left out," he added.
"Nowhere in the world where development has been taken up been free of tension because of fear of being left out in the development process," he said.
On the Tata project, the minister said the state could not afford to miss the opportunity as the auto sector was projected to contribute 10 per cent to GDP against 4.9 per cent now. In the process of inclusive growth both public and private sectors had a definite role," Sen added.
