Tata Motors March sales up 11%

Tata Motors reported on Monday an 11 per cent jump in its vehicle sales (including exports) during March at 62,779 units compared to 56,406 units in the same month a year ago.

The company said it recorded the highest passenger vehicle sales in a month during March at 25,760 units, up 14 per cent over the same month last year.

During the month, sales of the company's flagship hatchback Indica stood at 15,283 units, up 18 per cent month on month while sales in the Indigo family, which comprises of recently launched mid-sized sedan Indigo XL and station wagon Indigo Marina, declined six per cent at 4,368 units.

Utility vehicles recorded highest ever monthly sales in March at 6,109 units, up 23 per cent month on month, the company said in a statement.

Exports in the month, however, declined 33 per cent at 6,299 units as against 6,508 units in the same month of previous year, it said. The company reported a 13 per cent increase in its commercial vehicle sales during the month at 30,720 units compared to 27,289 units in the same month last year.

During the fiscal year ended March 31, the company reported cumulative sales of 5,79,378 units as against 4,54,345 units a year ago, up 28 per cent year-on-year. Passenger vehicle sales during the fiscal grew 20 per cent at 2,26,893 units.

Sales of Indica were up 30 per cent during the fiscal at 1,44,690 units while sales in the Indigo family of vehicles dipped 13 per cent at 34,310 units.
