Named after the bee that collects nectar from flowers, Bhramara endeavours to capture this metaphor in Internet search with a search engine that collects and sorts selected English and vernacular sites on India, a statement said.
Emphasising its vernacular character, Bhramara (http://bhramara.in) offers web search interfaces in Kannada and Hindi as well, the statement said.
These interfaces use Unicode font and work equally well on Windows and Linux, it said, adding, more vernacular interfaces are planned for the future.
Bhramara makes searching in Indian languages easier by making a software keypad that allows vernacular text input with a standard keyboard, it said.
Bhramara, the statement said, is not one but a many-in-one search engines with 13 vertical categories on India ranging from arts and blogs to news and travel.
Another user convenience is quick tags that give a single-click access to common searches. There is a feature that automatically accounts for multiple spellings of Indian names (such as Udupi and Udipi).
Bhramara is also packaged with a powerful advanced search page, the statement said. Bhramara has a blog that gives updates and allows users to offer feedback, it said.
