Sensex down 2 points at 10,802

The Sensex exhibited high volatility on Tuesday. The index, which opened marginally lower, swung in and out of positive zone in the morning deals. In the process, the index dropped to a low of 10,761 - down 43 points from its previous close.

A fresh spate of buying in frontline stocks saw the index recover all its losses, and rally to a new, all-time intra-day high of 10,896 - up 135 points from the day's low.

However, profit-taking towards the end saw the index slip back into negative zone. The Sensex finally ended on a flat note at 10,802 - down two points.

The NSE Nifty closed 7 points down at 3195.

The stock markets and all other financial markets will be closed on Wednesday on account of Holi.

The Metal Index dropped 1.5% to 7530, and the Teck Index was down 0.8% at 2563. While the Smallcap Index slipped nearly 1% to 6315, the Midcap Index declined 0.3% to 5066.

The market breadth was fairly negative - out of 2,603 stocks traded so far, 1,571 declined, 957 advanced and the rest were unchanged today.

SBI, which traded at a significant premium of 15% in the FII-to-FII trades yesterday, witnessed heavy buying today. The stock zoomed to a high of Rs 977 before settling with a gain of 2.7% at Rs 954. ICICI Bank added 1% to Rs 609.  HLL surged 1.4% to Rs 257. Reliance moved up 1% to Rs 740.

Technology stocks witnessed profit-taking today. Satyam slumped 3% to Rs 805. Wipro dropped 2.3% to Rs 520, and TCS slipped 1.2% to Rs 1,802.  Hindalco shed 2.8% to Rs 156. Tata Power and Ranbaxy tumbled 2% each to Rs 563 and Rs 413, respectively.

Sakuma Exports zoomed nearly 16% to Rs 46.55. Celebrity Fashions, TTK Prestige, Ganesh Forgings, Aban Loyd, Wartsila, Reliance Natural Resources, Havells India, Essel Propack, HCL Infosys and UTI Bank ended with sharp gains today.

Rayban plunged 6% to Rs 97.45. Ruchi Soya, Uttam Galva, Blue Dart, Nagarjuna Construction, Ramco System, Tamilnadu Newsprint, Finolex Cables, GTL, Bombay Dyeing, Birla Corporation and Hindustan Zinc were down 4-5% each.

SBI topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 496.06 crore followed by Reliance Communication Ventures (Rs 192.42 crore), HDFC (Rs 165.86 crore), Reliance (Rs 136.75 crore) and Tata Motors (Rs 96.91 crore).

Gujarat Petronet led the volume chart with trades of around 74 lakh followed by RCoVL (60.50 lakh), SBI (51.90 lakh), SAIL (34.12 lakh) and Mazda (31.29 lakh).

Sensex @ 1500 hrs

Selective profit taking at higher levels has seen the Sensex pare gains and is now up 42 points at 10,846.

SBI has gained 4.2% at Rs 968.

Reliance has moved up 1.3% to Rs 742.

Gujarat Ambuja, Grasim and ACC are up over 1% each at Rs 99, Rs 1,887 and Rs 767, respectively.

Tata Motors, ONGC, HLL, ITC and HDFC have also advanced over 1% each.

Satyam has slipped 2% to Rs 813. Hindalco has shed 1.7% to Rs 158.

Wipro, TCS and Hero Honda have declined 1% each to Rs 527, Rs 1,808 and Rs 886, respectively.

Out of 2,562 stocks traded so far, 1,421 have declined, 1,067 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

SBI leads the value chart with a turnover of Rs 417.06 crore followed by HDFC (Rs 162.60 crore), Reliance Communication Ventures (Rs 151.24 crore), Reliance (Rs 81.80 crore) and Tata Motors (Rs 67.40 crore).

Gujarat Petronet tops the volume chart with trades of around 59.41 lakh followed by Reliance Communication Ventures (47.48 lakh), SBI (43.66 lakh), Mazda (25.07 lakh) and SAIL (23.70 lakh).

Sensex @ 1400 hrs

The Sensex soared to a new all-time intra-day high of 10,894, and is now up 81 points at 10,885.

SBI has rallied 4.7% to Rs 973. ICICI Bank is up 1.6% at Rs 613.

Gujarat Ambuja, Grasim and ACC also continue to hold gains.

HLL and HDFC have advanced 1.5% each to Rs 258 and Rs 1,327, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, ITC and Tata Steel are up over 1% each at Rs 2,840, Rs 177 and Rs 465, respectively.

Satyam has slipped over 2% to Rs 811. TCS and Wipro have declined 1% each to Rs 1,808 and Rs 527, respectively.

Out of 2,531 stocks traded so far, 1,296 have declined, 1,152 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

Sakuma Exports has zoomed 14% to Rs 46. TTK Prestige, Aban Loyd, Wartsila, Reliance Natural Resources, Celebrity Fashions, HCL Infosys, Essel Propack, Everest Kanto, Ashapura Minechem, Surya Pharma, Alfa Laval, Havells India and Gujarat Petronet are trading with sharp gains.

Escorts has dropped over 4% to Rs 86.30. Tamilnadu Newsprint, DCW, Kalpatru Power, Sathavahana, GSK Comsumers, Bombay Dyeing, MTNL, GTL, Bongaigaon and Ramco System have lost considerable ground.
 
Sensex @ 1319 hrs

The Sensex has surged to the day's high of 10,878, and is now up 74 points at the same levels.

The Nifty is up 13 points at 3,216.

SBI has surged nearly 4% to Rs 964. ICICI Bank has advanced 1.8% to Rs 614. HDFC has added 1.4% to Rs 1,326.

Gujarat Ambuja and Grasim have rallied 2% each to Rs 99.75 and Rs 1,900, respectively. ACC is up 1.7% at Rs 772.

ITC and Bajaj Auto has spurted over 1% each to Rs 177 and Rs 2,837, respectively.

Tata Steel, Reliance Energy, HLL, Dr.Reddy's and ONGC are the other notable gainers among the Sensex stocks.

Satyam has slipped 2% to Rs 813, and Wipro has dropped 1.2% to Rs 526. TCS is down nearly 1% at Rs 1,810.

Out of 2,485 stocks traded so far, 1,277 have declined, 1,141 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

Sensex @ 1300 hrs

The Sensex has now gained 55 points to 10,858.

The Nifty is up 7 points at 3,210.

Gainers: Infosys, ITC, HLL, Bharti, Cipla, Dr Reddy's, HDFC

Losers: TCS, Satyam, Ranbaxy

Sensex @ 1242 hrs

Fresh buying at the banking stocks lifted the Sensex to the day's high of 10,865 - up 104 points from the day's low. The index is now up 50 points at 10,854.

SBI has rallied 2.5% to Rs 952. ICICI Bank has advanced 2% to Rs 615. HDFC has moved up 1.5% to Rs 1,328.

ACC and Gujarat Ambuja have spurted 2% each to Rs 774 and Rs 100, respectively. Grasim is up 1.6% at Rs 1,893.

Bajaj Auto has surged 1.3% to Rs 2,845. ITC and Dr.Reddy's are the other notable gainers among the Sensex stocks.

Satyam has slipped 1.5% to Rs 818, and Wipro has dropped 1% to Rs 527.

Hindalco is down 1.2% at Rs 159.

The market breadth continues to remain negative. Out of 2,450 stocks traded so far, 1,263 have declined, 1,115 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

Sensex @ 1150 hrs

The Sensex is holding gains and is now up 21 points at 10,825.

ACC has gained 1.8% at Rs 773. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja are up 1.6% each at Rs 1,894 and Rs 99.40, respectively.

HDFC has advanced 1.3% to Rs 1,325. The counter has clocked a hefty volume of around 12.11 lakh shares.

ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto and ITC have added 1% each to Rs 610, Rs 2,837 and Rs 177, respectively.

Satyam and Hindalco have declined 1.5% each to Rs 817 and Rs 158, respectively.

Wipro has shed 1% to Rs 527.

The market breadth continues to remain negative. Out of 2,340 stocks traded so far, 1,222 have declined, 1,045 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

HDFC leads the value chart with a turnover of Rs 158.16 crore followed by Reliance Communication Ventures - RCoVL) - (Rs 54.27 crore), ACC (Rs 39.89 crore), Titan (Rs 31.05 crore) and Areva (Rs 29.79 crore).

Gujarat Petronet tops the volume chart with trades of around 37.29 lakh shares followed by RCoVL (17.20 lakh), JK Cement (12.71 lakh), HCL Infosys (10.64 lakh) and Reliance Capital Ventures (10.63 lakh).

Sensex @ 1109 hrs

The Sensex has rebounded into positive zone and is now up 29 points at 10,833.

Cement stocks are witnessing fresh buying. ACC and Grasim have spurted 2% each to Rs 774 and Rs 1,899, respectively. Gujarat Ambuja has added 1.8% to Rs 99.55.

ITC has moved up 1% to Rs 177. Tata Power, Dr.Reddy's, NTPC and ICICI Bank are the other notable gainers among the Sensex stocks.

Satyam and Hindalco have slipped over 1% each to Rs 820 and Rs 159, respectively.

The market breadth is marginally negative. Out of 2,158 stocks traded so far, 1,051 have declined, 1,040 have advanced and 67 are unchanged.

TTK Prestige has hit the 20% upper limit at Rs 163. HCL Infosys, Wartsila, Reliance Natural Resources, Havells India, Everest Kanto and Hexaware are the other significant gainers.

Rane Holdings and DCW have dropped 4% each to Rs 196 and Rs 8.58, respectively. Swaraj Mazda, Sathavahana, Shoppers' Stop, Escorts, GTL, FACT, Zee, Bombay Dyeing and GSK Consumers are in declining mode.


Sensex @ 1030 hrs

The Sensex slipped to a low of 10,761 - down 90 points from the high. The index has now recovered and is almost flat at 10,801.

ACC and Gujarat Ambuja have added nearly 1% each to Rs 766 and Rs 98.60, respectively.

NTPC, ITC Grasim and ICICI Bank are the other notable gainers among the Sensex stocks.

Hindalco has dropped 1.5% to Rs 158.

Wipro has slipped 1.3% to Rs 526, and Satyam is down 1% at Rs 821.

Larsen & Toubro, Bharti Tele, Tata Motors, Infosys, Hero Honda, Maruti and HLL are the notable losers among the Sensex stocks.

The market breadth is slightly negative. Out of 1,763 stocks traded so far, 923 have declined, 794 have advanced and 46 are unchanged.

Sensex @ 1005 hrs

The markets opened on a negative note on Tuesday, after touching an all-time high of  10,884 on Monday.

The Sensex opened 7 points down at 10,797, while the Nifty opened 5 points down at 3,197.

The Sensex is now up 6 points at 10,809.

The Nifty is down 5 points at 3,198.
