In a bid to accelerate the modernisation process before the Common Wealth Games 2010, Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd on Tuesday said it will absorb the entire workforce of Airports Authority of India at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

DIAL, at its board meeting, decided to extend the offer of employment to all 100 per cent employees of AAI based at IGI Airport, New Delhi, instead of only 60 per cent, GMR Infrastructure informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

DIAL is a joint venture company comprising of GMR group, Airports Authority of India, Fraport AG, Malaysia Airport and India Development Fund (IDF).

As per the offer of employment, all general employees of AAI would be given two increments on their basic salary, in their current scale and a one time lump sum joining bonus. The employees would also be given an opportunity to upgrade their skills to meet the future challenges effectively.

The effect of revision of pay and allowances due from January 1, 2007, would be protected and all existing benefits, designation, and leave entitlement will remain same.

This offer would incentivise over 2,300 AAI employees to exercise their option and would also mitigate and eliminate the uncertainty regarding their future career with IGI.

Earlier an operation, management and development agreement was signed between AAI and DIAL, wherein DIAL proposed to make an offer of employment to a minimum of 60 per cent of AAI employees based at IGI Airport during the operation support period.

The process of training and upgrading skills of all employees would help in achieving the target of 3.5 Airport Service Quality.
