Immediately after the September 29 all India trade union strike, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya said he would fight tooth and nail to keep the state's fledgling information technology sector out of the purview of such strikes in the future.
While Bhattacharya cited reasons to make IT a part of 'essential services', his comrades in arms -- specifically the CITU (Centre for Indian Trade Unions) -- were hatching a different plot.
In their zeal to 'protect' the interests of employees of the IT and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sectors, the Leftists are pushing hard to convince IT employees to form trade unions.

Their argument -- IT/BPO/ITeS sectors have abysmal labour laws and the only way to address these problems and bring succour to these employees is to form trade unions.
Interestingly not only are the CEOs and senior managers at these companies apprehensive of any such move, even the employees appear against unionisation.
