It turned out to be a disappointing performance by Team India in the ICC World Twenty20. The defending champions were outplayed by the West Indies and England in the Super Eights and failed to make it to the semi-finals.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni received a lot of flak as the team looked bereft of ideas and faltered tactically against both. Some of his tactics, like dropping Pragyan Ojha and promoting Ravindra Jadeja, in the must-win game against England have come in for heavy criticism.
Coach Gary Kirsten said the Indian Premier League is to blame for the team's poor showing.
'Fatigue was definitely a factor, as were many other things. I don't want to use that as an excuse, but it was a factor. We weren't an energetic team,' he said on Monday.
Whatever the reasons, the team needs to shake off its woes and return to winning ways in this evening’s encounter against South Africa. India may have nothing to play for, but certainly there is pride at stake. A consolation victory will sure soothe the pain and disappointment of the last few days.
Chat with Chief Correspondent Harish Kotian, who is currently at the Trent Bridge stadium in Nottingham, and discuss what went wrong for Team India, and the upcoming match.
