Sri Lanka elect to bat in first Test

Covers come offSri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat against India in the first Test to be played at the SSC ground in Colombo from Wednesday.

Rain delayed the start of play on the opening day of the first Test. An extended final session will be played since five hours were lost to rain.

India's experienced batting line-up includes Sachin Tendulkar [Images], who returns after recovering from a groin injury.

Tendulkar needs 172 runs to beat Brian Lara's [Images] world record test aggregate of 11,953 runs.
