Ticket sales for Thursday's series opening one-day cricket match between India and Bangladesh have evoked a less than satisfactory response from the public with only 30 per cent of the 20,000 available tickets being sold so far.

The tickets put up for sale for the match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur have found few takers, according to sources in the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

"We had expected more response from the public. We hope the sales will pick up from now on," they said.

The tickets were being sold from 10 branches of the AB Bank, and the authorities were still hopeful of a full stadium on May 10.

Tickets at the Imamganj and Mirpur branches of the bank were exhausted, but there was not much of a queue at the other counters.

However, there was more enthusiasm for the second match of the series at the same venue on Saturday. Friday and Saturday are the weekend holidays in Bangladesh.

"There were long queues for the second ODI, but people returned home disappointed after learning that the tickets for the game would be sold from today," they said.

India and Bangladesh are slated to play three ODIs, with the third game scheduled to be held in Chittagong on May 15.

The tour would end with two Tests, the first at Chittagong (May 18-22) and the second in Dhaka (May 25-29).
