The threat of rain looms large on the first one-day international between India and Sri Lanka, with the weatherman forecasting a cloudy sky and downpour on Thursday.

India take on Sri Lanka in a day-night encounter at the Eden Gardens.

"We may expect cloudy weather as well as possibility of rain in some parts of the state," the Regional Meteorological Centre said on Tuesday.

"There had been a series of circulation from west to east at present in the region and the vortex was going over the Gangetic West Bengal as well as sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

"Presence of vortex helps incursion of moisture over the region and consequent development of thunderclouds. This may continue for a couple of days," the forecast added.
