Tata to inaugurate summit on CSR in Chennai

Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata will inaugurate a two-day national summit on Corporate Social Responsibility in Chennai beginning from June 14.

The event, being organised by industry body Confederation of Indian Industries, will deliberate on transformation in business models, processing and leadership profile to meet developmental demands, CSR - from bolt-on to built-in, social entrepreneurship, new models, new ideas, and developing CSR priorities.

CSR could be the most effective strategy for business to manage social and political challenges, chairman of the summit Venu Srinivasan told reporters.

Engaging small and medium entrepreneurs in CSR was very important, he said adding that it was crucial to shift focus to the SME sector, which is both labour and capital- intensive.

Srinivasan, also the managing director of Sundaram Clayton [Get Quote] of the TVS [Get Quote] Group, also informed that a TVS-CII Centre for responsive corporate citizenship was being set up at the Mahindra World City, for which two acres of land had been identified.TVS would be spending Rs 6 crore on setting up the centre, which would provide community training and company CSR training, he said
