Sensex ends up 20 points at 14,083

Taking cues from the strong global markets, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 107 points at 14,171. The index soon rallied to a high of 14,269, and thereafter displayed range-bound movement for major part of the trading day.

However, aggressive selling in late noon trades saw the index erase gains and slip into the negative zone to a low of 14,058 -- down 211 points from the day's high. The Sensex finally ended with a gain of 20 points at 14,083. The NSE Nifty ended at 4,146, up 1 point.

The market breadth turned negative at close -- out of 2,620 stocks traded, 1,364 declined, 1,171 advanced and 85 were unchanged on Monday.

Movers And Shakers

Hero Honda soared over 3% to Rs 703. ITC and Hindalco [Get Quote] surged 2% each to Rs 154 and Rs 161, respectively.

HDFC [Get Quote] and Infosys [Get Quote] rallied around 1.5% each to Rs 1,779 and Rs 1,980, respectively.

Reliance Communications [Get Quote] and Grasim [Get Quote] dropped around 2% each to Rs 505 and Rs 2,347, respectively.

SBI [Get Quote], Dr Reddy's, Tata Steel [Get Quote] and Wipro [Get Quote] were down around 1% each at Rs 1,340, Rs 625, Rs 580 and Rs 542, respectively.

Value And Volume Toppers

Reliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 114.50 crore followed by Nitin Fire (Rs 92.25 crore), Reliance Communications (Rs 61.40 crore), Indiabulls [Get Quote] Real (Rs 59.50 crore) and Infosys (Rs 55.65 crore).

G V Films [Get Quote] led the volume chart with trades of around 78 lakh shares followed by Reliance Natural [Get Quote] (72 lakh), IFCI (70.35 lakh), Silverline (49 lakh) and Dena Bank [Get Quote] (37.55 lakh).
