Bharti Q1 net soars 71% to Rs 1,424 crore

Bharti Airtel [Get Quote] net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2007, soared 71.3% to Rs 1,424.22 crore (Rs 14.242 billion) as against Rs 831.39 crore (Rs 8.313 billion) reported in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

According to a release issued by Bharti to the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday, the group's total income, as per Indian GAAP, for Q1FY08 surged 54% to Rs 5,873.52 crore (Rs 58.735 billion) from Rs 3,815.49 crore (Rs 38.154 billion) in Q1FY07.

On a stand-alone basis Bharti's Q1FY08 net zoomed 73.5% to Rs 1,412.92 crore (Rs 14.129 billion) when compared with Rs 814.38 crore (Rs 8.143 billion) in Q1FY07. Total income increased 53.8% to Rs 5,691.45 crore (Rs 56.914 billion) from Rs 3,700.56 crore (Rs 37.005 billion).

As per the US GAAP, Bharti's consolidated net zoomed 100% to Rs 1,511.60 crore (Rs 15.116 billion) in Q1FY08 from Rs 755.09 crore (Rs 7.550 billion) in Q1FY07. Total income was up 53% at Rs 5,904.60 crore (Rs 59.046 billion) from Rs 3,856.36 crore (Rs 38.563 billion).
