In an effort to brand India as an emerging global power, Indian companies are organising a series of activities in the US to mark the 60th anniversary of Independence.

New Delhi-based MCorp Global, headed by BK Modi, in collaboration with University of California, Los Angeles, is organising a week-long 'India Splendor' programme in Los Angeles from August 10-15. The event will celebrate the "emergence of India as a great nation and a superpower of tomorrow".

It includes film screening, lectures on art and theatre, art workshops, among others. The closing ceremony on August 15 will witness the conferring of Global India Splendor Awards on distinguished Indians.

The winners include NR Narayana Murthy, chief mentor, Infosys [Get Quote], Rajendra Pawar, chairman, NIIT [Get Quote], Mani Ratnam, film producer, among others.

The Confederation of Indian Industry is taking a 120-member delegation of industrialists to New York as part of the "India at 60" programme, to be organised by the CII and the government of India from September 20-23.

The delegation would be led by Tarun Das, chief mentor, CII. While CII delegations visit the US every year, this year's event is special as it will mark the 60 years of Independence and is a "brand building project for India".

It will coincide with the session of the United Nations General Assembly.
