The sixth edition of 'Logistics Summit 2007', to be held in Chennai in September, will push for granting industry status to the estimated $73 billion sector in the country, summit chairman H R Srinivasan said on Wednesday. The summit would deliberate and come out with a paper to be presented to the government, seeking industry status to Indian logistics, which was vital to make it a competitive tool in the growing economy, he told reporters in Chennai.
Srinivasan said the theme of the two-day summit, being organised jointly by industry body CII and Institute of Logistics from September 20, would be 'Powering Growth Through Logistics Innovation and Integration.'
The event would focus on logistics in four sectors - agriculture, retail, construction and automotive - and also discuss the transaction costs and their impact on the economy. Srinivasan said 'Logistics Summit 2007' would also for the first time feature awards to recognise and appreciate excellence and innovation in supply chain management.
A study to assess manpower and increase the talent pool in the logistics industry had also been undertaken, he said. Belgium is the partner country for the event, where over 130 exhibitors will set up stalls.
