VOTE: Your favourite Modi LOOK!

May 21, 2015 09:54 IST

When it comes to style, our fashion-forward PM is on top of his game.

Whether he's campaigning in the North-East or giving diplomacy a push, fashion is always on his agenda.

NaMo hasn't hesitated to put on a 'dress made of gold foil' (as one tweet described it) in Leh or tried to out-Gandalf the wizard on the Mongolian steppes.

And who can forget that suit with Modi-Modi-Modi all over?

Presenting NaMo's various fashion avatars. Vote and tell us which one is your favourite!

Gandalf on the Steppes

When in Mongolia, do as the Mongols do.

The first Indian premier to visit the land of Genghis Khan turned heads with a fedora and flowing Mongolian robe, posing with a horse gifted by his counterpart, Chimediin Saikhanbileg.

That suit

When one of the planet's leading fashionistas came visiting this January, NaMo captured sartorial and other headlines when he wore a navy blue suit with yellow stripes.

When photographers looked closely, they discovered the thin stripes in the suit were composed of the words 'Narendra Damodardas Modi'.

Familiar accusations of narcissm may not have made NaMo abandon the suit, but when charged with wearing an outfit that likely cost a million bucks, it was quickly auctioned and the winning bid -- Rs 43.1 million -- quickly made over to the Namami Gange project.

The Great Hornbill

In colourful Nagaland, Modi was game to don hornbill headgear, carrying it off with panache.

Colour coordination

In Manipur, campaigning for last year's Lok Sabha elections, Modi assembled a rainbow fashion coalition.

Headgear with plumage. Green velvet coat. Pink kurta. Orange accessory to go with the headgear.

The Headman

NaMo ears many hats, literally.

After donning a turban in Punjab and a traditional Japi in Assam, NaMo wore a Gaung Baung, a traditional 'head wrap', in Myanmar.

Not as colourful as the headgear he usually sports, NaMo matched it with an ink-blue jacket, first worn by his illustrious predecessor, the first prime minister of India.

Ladakhi Fashion Scout

In Ladakh, to inaugurate the Leh-Srinagar transmission line and the Nimmo-Bazgo hydro electric project, NaMo took to a shiny gold gown -- the Ladakhi Goncha -- with a red sash around the waist and a Ladakhi traditional hat with upturned side flaps.

NaMo looked uncomfortable at first -- it was the first time he had gone the whole hog, from head to toe -- but warmed up as he is known to, and by the end of the engagement, was strutting around in the manner born.

Hey Xi, like this look?

Beijing mimicked its usual apoplexy when an Indian leader visits Arunachal Pradesh as NaMo flew to Itanagar.

That wasn't going to to prevent the PM from emphatically making the point that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the Indian Union, highlighting it forcefully with this fashion statement -- traditional 'dumuluk' headgear, native to the Adi tribe and an elaborate neck piece, worn on a black jacket and orange kurta.

Watch out, Clint

Okay, okay, this was before he became Pradhan Mantri.

The cowboy look is from his native Amadavad, during one kite festival.

No kurta here, just a striped T-shirt and a Good, Bad and Ugly topi. We haven't seen him in it since.
