We DO NOT need morality lessons from Congress: BJP

Last updated on: February 9, 2012 13:50 IST

The Congress on Thursday demanded the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on moral grounds after two out of three ministers in his government were found watching a porn clip on a cell phone in the state legislative assembly.

"The BJP, which talks of high morals and ethics, has no face left. What will its president Nitin Gadkari say now on this episode," said All India Congress Committee Secretary Sudhakar Reddy.

Two out of three Bharatiya Janata Party ministers in the Sadananda Gowda government --Laxman Savdi, C C Patil and Krishna Palemar -- were caught on camera watching a porn flick on their mobile phone during assembly proceedings.

They resigned on Wednesday following the furore over the incident.

"The porn clip episode reveals the real face of the BJP which claims to be a party with culture. It indicates what kind of culture they are boasting of," Reddy said, claiming that the Congress had always maintained its dignity.

Meanwhile, facing the heat on the porn scandal, Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda accused the Congress of engaging in petty politics.

"We need not learn lessons of morality from Congress leaders. The whole world knows about the scams the Congress leaders have faced. I myself can cite at least 25 such instances that involved Congress leaders," Gowda told reporters.

Gowda said the three had quit voluntarily and had even demanded a probe.

He said a House Committee of the assembly has been set up to enquire into the incident and the Congress should wait for its report.

The chief minister's attack came even as Congress members staged a dharna in front of the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, demanding the BJP government's resignation and disqualification of three former ministers from assembly membership.

Congress legislators headed by Opposition Leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah and Karntaka Pradesh Congress Committee chief G Parameshwara staged the dharna,  shouting slogans against the BJP government.

Addressing the legislators, Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah said the BJP government has been facing one scandal after the other ever since it came to power four years ago.

They said there was no need for any House committee to probe the matter and Speaker K G Bopaiah should disqualify them from the assembly membership.

Embarrassed by the episode involving Laxman Savadi, C C Patil and Krishna Palemar, the BJP had on Wednesday asked them to step down.
