A winter swimmer warms himself near a fire after bathing in the icy waters of a pond at the Victory Park, with the air temperature at about minus 15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) in St. Petersburg.
The participants, including fans of winter swimming, known as "walruses" and World War Two veterans, gathered to mark the 69th anniversary of the city liberation after the 900 day-long Nazi siege of Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, according to organisers.
