Jaya, Karuna richest CM candidates; VS poorest
Rediff.com takes a look at the assets owned by the chief ministerial candidates of the poll-bound states
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo J Jayalaithaa has declared assets valued at Rs 51 crore, both movable and immovable, in her election affidavit.

In the affidavit filed while submitting her nomination papers to contest from Srirangam in the April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls, Jayalalithaa said she had movable assets worth Rs 13.03 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 38.37 crore, which includes 14.5 acres of grape yards in Andhra Pradesh and a tea estate in Kodanad in Nilgiri district.
She said she was unable to give the actual market rate of her various properties as the police had seized documents and handed them over to a court in Bengaluru, which is probing her disproportionate wealth case.
She declared that she has five cars.
Jayalalithaa does not have any debts, she said in the affidavit. She had not declared the value of her jewellery.

Karunanidhi has assets worth assets worth Rs 41.13 crore
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi doesn't have any immoveable property, not even a car. But he, along with his two wives, owns moveable assets worth Rs 41.13 crore, the CM stated in his election affidavit.
Karunanidhi has moveable assets worth nearly Rs 4.93 crore as bank deposits and cash on hand, according to the affidavit filed by him while submiting his nomination for Thiruvarur assembly seat.
The 87-year old-DMK patriarch has declared moveable assets of Rs 15.34 crore for his first wife Dayalu Ammal and Rs 20.83 crore for his second wife Rajathi Ammal. He doesn't own a car and has no agricultural land or house, it said.
The premises where he is residing has been donated to Anjugam Trust, to start a hospital after his death.
Karunanidhi has a debt of Rs 10 lakh while Rajathi Ammal has Rs 1.01 crore as unsecured loan to be repaid to her daughter and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Kanimozhi.
Dayalu Ammal has a share of Rs six crore in Kalaignar TV while Rajathi Ammal has a share of Rs 2.5 crore in West Gate Logistics Pvt Ltd. She also has other business investments to the tune of Rs 2.57 crore.
According to the affidavit, Dayalu Ammal has jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh and Rajathi Ammal has jewellery worth Rs nine lakh.
Dayalu Ammal owns a housing site at Thiruvarur and Rajathi Ammal a house in CIT Colony, Chennai. Karunanidhi had declared an income of Rs 37 lakh per annum and Dayalu Rs 64 lakh during the last assessment year.
Rajathi Ammal had declared an income of Rs 1.67 crore.

Bengal CM has Rs 5,000!
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee does not own a house or a car. He stays in a government flat and has just Rs 5,000 in cash.
Bhattacharjee, who is the Communist Party of India - Marxist's candidate for Jadavpore constituency in Kolkata, said in his affidavit filed with the Election Commission that his income for the year 2009-10 was Rs 1,00,920.
Bhattacharjee has no bank deposit, investment, fixed deposits or jewellery.
The chief minister has no immovable or movable property, farm land, non-agricultural land, commercial or residential building.
The income tax return of Bhattacharjee's wife Mira, however, shows she had an income of Rs 6,70,135 in 2009-10. She also has movable assets valued at over Rs 31 lakh including bank deposits, jewellery and investments.

Kerala CM has no movable or immovable assets
Kerala Chief Minister and CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan does not have any movable or immovable assets, according to the affidavit filed by him as part of his election nomination papers.
Achuthanandan submitted that he had cash in hand of Rs 3,000 and Rs 80,295 as bank deposits.
The total income of the 87-year-old leader was shown as Rs 3,43,994 as per the income tax returns filed for 2009-10.
Achuthanandan, who hails from Punnapra North in Alappuzha district, did not inherit or acquire any property, according to the asset details.
His wife Vasumathy, a state service pensioner, owns 10 cents of land at Paravoor in Alappuzha district, purchased in 1982 at a price of Rs 18,000, which has a current market value of Rs 1 lakh. She also has gold ornaments of 100 grams valued at Rs 1,96,000.
Vasumathy has Rs 10,000 as cash-in-hand and Rs 5,70,635 in bank deposits. She holds a share of Rs 5,000 in Malayalam Communications, which runs the pro-CPI-M Kairali TV channel.

Assam CM is also a crorepati
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is contesting from Titabar assembly constituency for the third time, owns immovable property worth Rs 3.65 crore and movable assets totalling over Rs 35 lakh.
According to his affidavit 15 filed with his nomination papers, Gogoi owns a 1,817 sq ft flat at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi worth Rs 1.9 crore and a residential building measuring 2,610 sq ft on a plot of land at Ajanta Path of Beltola area of Guwahati whose current market value is Rs 1.05 crore.
Tarun Gogoi, 74, who had not inherited any property, had purchased 14,400 sq feet piece of non-agricultural land at Beltola whose approximate market value is Rs 70 lakh, according to his affidavit.
The chief minister with a total income of Rs 5,92,580, as shown in his income tax return for 2009-10, has movable assets worth Rs 35.25 lakh.
