The 'chalo assembly' rally of the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee turned violent at several places in Hyderabad on Monday.
The rally was organised in support of demand for statehood for Telangana.

"Students hurled stones at the security personnel at Adikmet and Nizam Collage hostel at Basheerbag area forcing us to use tear gas shells to disperse them," East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Y Gangadhar told PTI.

Over 500 students tried to take out a rally from the Arts College towards NCC Gate and tried to remove barricades put up by police.
Students indulged in heavy stone pelting when they were prevented from marching towards the assembly, the DCP said.

A group of protesting students set fire to a boggie of a local train at Jamai Osmania railway station.
However, a police party immediately rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire, he said, adding that five students were taken into custody in this connection.
