Bihar lawmaker and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav threw paper confetti at Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday when she refused to entertain his request for raising the controversy over Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Aptitude Test paper.

Yadav, who represents Bihar’s Madhepura constituency, was demanding a reply from Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the UPSC controversy. The Speaker refused to entertain the request following which he started throwing confetti.

Slamming the unruly behaviour, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the members should uphold the dignity of the House. “It is becoming a habit with some people, to come to the well, to the front seat and throw papers. Such actions are not dignified. The entire country is watching and they are not going to benefit from this action.”

“So it is my polite request to all members that we should all work together to uphold the dignity of the house,” he said, adding that no matter how serious an issue is, there is procedure through which it can be raised.

However, Yadav later said he did not tear and throw any piece of paper at the Speaker but was just demanding quick action on the issue. “I threw papers at the ground to draw attention to the issue and demanded answers from the Home Minister,” he said.
